Cancellations can mean that a facility is not able to find a replacement to care for their patients.
Similarly, when a facility cancels a practitioner with short notice the practitioner may not be able to find a replacement shift, resulting in a loss of income.
Our aim is to create timely transparency around this, but we are also aware that unexpected things come up.
To cancel a booked shift simply:
- Go to the Booked Work tab in My Work
- Find the shift/s you need to cancel from
- Hit the cancel button
If you need to cancel a shift within less than 24 hours of the start time you must call the facility and advise them. Read more here about where to find contact info.

- At least 2 hours before the start of the shift, you are not entitled to pay.
- Within 2 hours of the start of the shift, you are entitled to be paid for 2 hours of work. Your timesheet will automatically sign off for 2 hours if this occurs
A facility can cancel and remove a shift with a confirmed practitioner, but just note, uPaged takes shift cancellations very seriously.
- Go to the Pending Work tab in My Work
- Find the shift/s you need to withdraw from
- Hit the Withdraw button

If you are cancelling a booked shift within 24 hours of the start of the shift, do not call uPaged. You must call the hospital directly as the hospital is your employer to update them of your non-attendance. Find the contact number in the facility's profile or when cancelling the shift.
NOTE: If you have applied for a shift but your application has not been booked or confirmed yet, select CANCEL on the shift application. You are not required to ring the hospital, and do not ring uPaged.
As per your employment contract and our Shift Cancellation Policy, if a facility cancels a booked or confirmed shift:
- At least 2 hours before the start of the shift, you are not entitled to pay
- Within 2 hours of the start of the shift, you are entitled to be paid for 2 hours of work.
- They require a more specialised practitioner with particular skills and/or experience for that particular shift. Although uPaged practitioners are not limited to working within their usual specialty and may apply outside their specialty, sometimes booking managers require specialised practitioners for the shift

If a facility has cancelled your shift:
- You will receive an email confirming the cancellation
- You will receive an app notification confirming the cancellation
- The shift card within Booked Work will have Cancelled on it
